Rain, Romance & Rolling Hills - A Stunning Gay Wedding in Tuscany

gay wedding in Italy

There’s something undeniably magical about a wedding in Italy—the warm weather, rolling vineyards, breathtaking views, and, of course, the food and wine. So when Ryan and Elliot asked us to capture their wedding day at Convento Di Montepozzali in the heart of Tuscany, we couldn’t pack our camera bags fast enough.

We arrived a couple of days early, soaking up the sunshine and indulging in a lot (seriously, so much) of pizza and pasta—fully embracing the Italian way of life before what we knew was going to be one incredible celebration.

The night before the wedding, Ryan and Elliot hosted a welcome party for their guests and kindly invited us along to capture the evening (and enjoy even more amazing food). Under the glow of the moonlit sky, surrounded by laughter and love, we instantly felt like part of the family—making us even more excited for the big day ahead.

The big day had finally arrived! We joined Ryan and Elliot in the morning to capture both sides of groom prep, and from the very start, the energy was exactly how they wanted it—relaxed, fun, and completely stress-free. No formalities, no pressure, just two people celebrating their love with their closest friends and family. And honestly, that’s what we love to capture the most.

Their ceremony was nothing short of stunning—set against the gorgeous Tuscan countryside, with beautiful readings that had everyone feeling the real emotion of the moment. Tears, laughs & unpredictable moments, the perfect recipe for a wedding ceremony. We all had a good laugh when the lovely celebrant forgot to tell all the guest they can now sit down!

As the day went on, the unpredictable Italian weather made an appearance, bringing a little rain our way. But Ryan and Elliot embraced every second of it, proving that a bit of rain only adds to the chaos of a wedding. We grabbed our cameras, they grabbed each other, and we captured some of our favourite moments of the day—fun, spontaneous, and full of love.

The evening rolled into the coziest celebration, with incredible food, plenty of wine, and a dance floor that didn’t stop all night. Ryan and Elliot’s day was everything they wanted—laid-back, full of love, and completely them. We feel so lucky to have been there to capture it all.

Ryan & Elliot

Briefly, how did you guys meet?

The PG version is that, despite already knowing each other for years, we never properly hung out. As Covid hit, we started to talk more on Instagram, and because we couldn't meet, we bonded over playing Mario Kart online. We were each others first actual competition, as everyone else we played with seemed easy! This touch actually bled into our wedding day; our table names were different video games that we love.

When did you guys start planning your wedding?

Pretty much as soon as we got engaged in December 2022!

How long did it take you to find your perfect wedding venue?

We went to Italy to visit some places in May 2023 and although it was the last place we looked at, it was actually the first place we found on google.

How would you describe your wedding theme? What was the inspiration?

Ryan knew that he wanted to get married in the countryside, where he grew up, and have some sort of outdoor setting. He also loves Italy and the food and wine that come with it. So putting them together seemed like a no brainer, whilst also guaranteeing slightly better weather than the UK (HAHHAHAAHHA).
The wedding theme then became about Italy, and since Ryan is a graphic designer, he created all the stationary to mimic this with Tuscan orange and Sage green accents.

Tell us about your ceremony & your wedding reception

Our mums walked us down the aisle, and our song as we walked down was "The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time theme song" which is from Elliot's favourite video game. Ryan was stood behind Elliot waiting for his turn to walk down the aisle and he could see Elliot's hands immediately go to his face as he heard the first chords and the tears started to fall. The song was played by someone who Ryan has followed for years in the London scene: Benedict Cork.

Our wedding reception had a beautiful buffet of authentic Italian cuisine, and although it was cut short from some rain, it pushed everyone under a gazebo, all huddled in together and the alcohol was still plentiful and flowing and it just showed us how no one really cared - they were just having fun with each other!

What was your favourite part of planning your wedding?

Creating the stationary for sure was the best part - not just because it was the thing I had total control of (lol) but because it felt like I could look around on the wedding day and see a part of myself.

Do you have any regrets or things you wish you knew before planning a wedding?

Plan B Plan B Plan B - if I write anymore of that I'll get depressed haha.

Looking back on your wedding now, what was the most memorable moments?

Elliot - Hearing the first chords of our wedding aisle walk "The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time" theme song, made me instantly start to tear up.

Ryan - My best man's, Joel, speech, how eloquent and hilarious it was.

What were some of the best decisions you made when planning your wedding day?

Honestly, the guests. We were under no obligation to invite people that we didn't want to, and as such resulted in the perfect mix of guests who all loved us and each other - it just makes the vibe so much better!

If you had any advice for future brides & grooms, what would that be?

Don't underestimate how much your loved ones are there to celebrate your love on the day. We thought we might have to have something planned for every moment of the day, but seeing everyone just revelling in sharing stories of us with one another was such a surprise and we don't know why we didn't give our guests more credit!
Oh and don't fully bank on the weather being a certain way - always prepare yourself for Plan B.

Oh yeah, we had the best time. Thank you so much Ryan & Elliot! We love you guys!
