Crowcombe Court Somerset Wedding | Rob & Rebecca
Rob & Rebecca both married at the beautiful Crowcombe Court wedding venue, based in the Quantock Hills in Somerset. If we had to describe Rob & Rebecca’s wedding day, it would be a blend of classy and edgy, seasoned with a load of humble love! It’s been an absolute pleasure getting to know these two during the planning process of their wedding. We are so happy to share a bit of an insight to their epic wedding day at Crowcombe Court.
How did you guys meet?
Through friends and the local music scene… I had my eye on Rob as the lead vocalist in his current band, The Rejects… We were also Best Man and Maid of Honour at our friends’ wedding! Needless to say, it went from there!
When did you guys start planning your wedding?
August 2021, after Rob proposed with a temporary, obnoxiously wonderful unicorn ring which was PERFECT for the occasion and then followed up by a big sparkly diamond that we chose together!
How long did it take you to find your perfect wedding venue?
We decided on our first venue practically instantly. We wanted somewhere fun but classy. We actually ended up having to change our venue in December 2021 because sadly our first venue went into liquidation, and drank up our deposit too… but thank goodness we did, because Crowcombe Court was absolutely perfect for us! We walk in the Quantocks regularly with the mini sausages so it was a match made in heaven. The first time we visited together, it just felt perfect! We were so so lucky that they had an August date available, being wedding season! The coordinators at Crowcombe are absolutely amazing people, and very passionate about what they do.
Tell us about your ceremony & your wedding reception
We were married in Crowcombe Church of the Holy Ghost, by Reverend Jane Haslam, who made the ceremony so relaxed and joyful. After the bridal party arrived more than half an hour late (which I hear is normal!?), My gorgeous 14 month old niece was due to open as flower girl to the opening of Pachelbel’s Canon in D. She was of course not having any of it and my brother, Rob, ended up stealing the show and pushing her down the aisle in her buggy whilst tossing the petals himself! All this and meanwhile there were two bats in the church keeping everyone entertained! You couldn’t have written it. Walking down the aisle to a live string quartet with the bridesmaids and my Dad, to Rob, was quite literally a dream come true for me. We were then driven back down the driveway to the venue in the vintage Bentley that myself and my Dad, Gary, arrived in. Live music played on the piano by a good friend and musician, Simon, greeted everyone as well as canapés and fizz!
What was your favourite part of planning your wedding?
Some of the best moments were coming for our food tasting experience at Crowcombe Court just the two of us, shopping for candlesticks in second hand shops, learning our first dance together, cake tasting, taking the doggies for walks in the quantocks after visiting Crowcombe, attending church together regularly on the lead up to the wedding… all of the things that were just us. Whilst all the other planning is really exciting (and anyone who knows me knows that I can really get carried away with a theme!), these moments are the ones that really matter in the lead up to your wedding. That said, the dress shopping was pretty magical!
How would you describe your wedding theme? What was the inspiration?
We went for classy and quirky. Navy and Gold, brass candlesticks, pearls and ivy with lots of flowers… then disco balls and fairy lights and a retro themed photo booth in the undercroft to add the sparkle to our 80s themed band. We were so fortunate to work with an outstanding event decor company, Creative Collections, run by Alison, who was an angel and made everything perfect.
We wanted our interests and personalities to shine through but we also wanted the venue to speak for itself!
Do you have any regrets or things you wish you knew before planning a wedding?
You know how everybody tells you, don’t worry about the little things? Well for us, some of those little things really do matter… Obviously one doesn’t need to get oneself hung up on these details, but for us, it was the little details that added that vibe of who we are as a couple. Signing names on a skateboard, the order of the day sign drawn by my class, lyrics for some of our favourite songs framed and dotted around the venue, having cocktails named after us, an amazing floating cake (Dreams & Wishes), champagne with your second name (Perdrix champagne!), a cake tower with a ‘say cheese’ topper, vintage tea cups, cute little labels on our favours, even 80s themed fortune teller origami favours … some of these things cost so little, but it gives your guests lots to look at, to talk about, and memories to go away with. The gold cutlery probably wasn’t essential and Rob definitely had one of those “just keep smiling” moments(!), but it put the cherry on the top of our theme! Some of the details are just for you though; our amazing florist even included flowers named after Rob’s mum and my wedding ring is a family heirloom.
For us, the biggest thing when planning our day, was that we didn’t want any of our guests to be bored. The abundance of these little details in addition to lots of music, food, and drink, mattered more to us than some of the other things.
That said, the one thing we would say is to literally make the most of every single minute. It goes by so quickly! It would’ve been nice for the bridesmaids, and the bride to have more time together in the morning, as we ended up doing lots of jobs on the morning of the wedding, and in hindsight, this is the only thing we’d change, but we’d never call any of it ‘regrets’. The day was perfect.
Looking back on your wedding now, what was the most memorable moments?
There are so many! Putting the dress on and the first look with Gary!!! And moments in the church (flower boy brother, bats flying around, Rob’s brother dropping his buttons!), the first dance (x2), the speeches (so many tears!), the photo booth, dancing and singing with the band!
What were some of the best decisions you made when planning your wedding day?
Take the pressure off of decor and book Alison, Creative Collections. This was one of the best decisions were made in terms of having what we wanted from the decor without having to do it ourselves, and she really does run with a vision.
If you had any advice for future bride & grooms, what would that be?
Defo practice your first dance on your own with just the photographers (who will, of course, be Simon and Kiana!) as we got some banging photographs doing this!
Kind Words
Wowzers!! We’ve just finished the emotional rollercoaster that was the outstanding gallery of photographs that you just landed! Seriously. Wow. We’ve both done lots of crying and laughing, again, and relived the whole day, but whilst being able to see it through the eyes of others too. How… we repeat HOW did you manage to be in a million places at once and capture so much love, emotion and laughter? The quality of your work is exceptional. We both feel that anyone who has you as their photographers should feel honoured. We want all of your future couples to know how lucky they are. You’ve captured the day so beautifully for us as a vivid, creative, dramatic, fun and love-filled memory that can live on. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
We are also so excited to begin sharing the album with the friends and family who were there, all of whom will be blown away too.
You two are gifted. Two in a million. We feel very lucky to have met you both, as professionals and as friends.
